Three Tips to Keep Your Florissant Home Comfortable During the Winter Months

The dropping temperatures in Florissant aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s not hard to dream about the warmer weather, it’s important to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a big role in this, which is why it’s so important to complete annual furnace service.

We do have to note that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is recommended be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will have an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need improving. You could be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors offer the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way inside. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in working-order or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be allowing cold air inside. If you find any problems, weatherstripping is basic to swap and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common places for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they might be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as simple as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These couple of tips are just a starting point, but do recognize that there are other basic fixes you can complete once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to accomplish on the weekend.
