Couple relaxing at home comfortably

How to keep your Florissant home comfortable this winter

The dropping temperatures in Florissant aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s easy to dream about the warmer temps, it’s important to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a large role in this, which is why it’s so important to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to mention that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is recommended be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will have an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need fixed. You could be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to make it’s way inside your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in working-order or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is basic to replace and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on the age of your lights, they might be letting all the hot air in your home escape through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These three tips are just a starting point, but do recognize that there are other basic fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to accomplish on the weekend.
